The Yulee Sugar Mills Ruins Historic State Park in Homosassa,
Florida provides visitors a glimpse into the area's history. Standing
by the side of West Yulee Drive the forty-foot limestone masonry
chimney, the iron gears, and cane press draws attention. They
are the remnants of the once thriving 5,100 acre plantation, “Marquerita”
owned by David Levy Yulee. The steam driven sugar mill began operation
in 1851 and worked until 1864 when union blockades destroyed the
plantation house. Visitors can learn about the making of sugar
from several interpretive panels stationed around the mill structure
or relax and picnic beneath the dense canopy of live oaks.
Hours of Operation
We are open from 8 a.m. until sundown 365 days a year.
