Located on the beautiful Suwannee River, Stephen Foster Folk
Culture Center State Park celebrates North Florida’s natural beauty,
regional craftsmanship, and a legendary American composer.
This unique state park is named in honor of Stephen Foster, a
19th century composer whose tunes for the family parlor and traveling
minstrel show remain American favorites. His composition, “Old
Folks at Home” immortalized the Suwannee River. Since 1935 it
has also been known as Florida’s state song. Visitors to the 888-acre
park can tour the Stephen Foster Museum and Carillon Tower, or
take a canoe or kayak excursion along the Suwannee River. Trails
are available for hiking and bicycling.
In Craft Square working artists and craftsmen share their skills
in classes and workshops. Weekly demonstrations and classes are
offered in quilting, blacksmithing, basketry, pottery, stain glass
and more. Special events throughout the year include an Antique
Tractor Show, Quilt Show, Rural Folklife Days, and the prestigious
Florida Folk Festival, now celebrating its 51st year.
Elderhostel programs on natural history and local culture are
offered during the winter months for adult leisure and learning.
School field trips to tour the park and for special events are
offered throughout the year. Group tours also can be arranged
for motorcoach operators or for smaller groups. Campground programs
on topics from nature hikes to Florida history are offered every
weekend from October through April.
The park also features a beautiful Gift Shop offering traditional
and contemporary arts and crafts, regional foods, jewelry, toys,
Florida books and music, and Stephen Foster memorabilia.
Our facilities are also available for rentals for business meetings
and social occasions.
