Message from the Manager
As winter passes some of our usual winter visitors start to fade
out of sight. The Northern Harrier and winter songbirds are no
longer seen gliding or darting through the skies but the warmer
weather has brought in new guests. Gopher tortoises welcome the
beautiful warm sunny days as they enthusiastically munch away
at the new and lush vegetation growing around their domains. Spring
fever has also made its way to park guests. Lake Louisa beach
has become quite a hub on the weekends with people enjoying a
variety of activities from fishing and picnicking to canoeing
and hiking. Every Saturday morning campers have had the privilege
to enjoy a cup of coffee and sticky bun while listening to stories
and information about the park with our “Coffee with a ranger”
program. The program has been so widely received that we have
had guests come in from other neighboring campgrounds just to
see and listen to the program. The staff is also happy to see
construction starting on our new cabins which will hopefully arrive
sometime this fall. Lake Louisa is proud to be hosting our first
annual Lake Louisa Field Day event on March 20, 2004, sponsored
by the Friends of Lake Louisa State Park. The event will have
a series of outdoor workshops for people to sign up and learn
about such activities as kayaking, fishing, and backpacking. The
event will also include a festival on the beach where other environmental
agencies, organizations, and businesses can showcase their projects
and upcoming events.
