Message from the Manager
The weather remains great for picnicking, swimming, surfing and
fishing. We have a few remaining Surfing Contests taking place
prior to the end of March. If you are interested in viewing one
of these remaining weekend events, please contact the park for
more information.
I need to mention two operational notices. First, if you have
not already noticed, the bridge at Jack Island Preserve State
Park has been repaired and the park is once again fully operational.
If you enjoy hiking and observing wildlife, Jack Island offers
an extensive well marked trail system. Jack Island is located
just one mile North of Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, on the eastern
side of Highway A1A. The park is open from 8:00 AM to Sunset and
a fee is not required to visit.
Secondly, you may have also noticed that we have been doing some
extensive exotic removal and prescription burning at Fort Pierce
Inlet State Park. These resource management tools are needed to
not only enhance and preserve the natural beauty of this special
resource, but to also reduce the fuel loading that takes place
over time. Typically if left unmanaged and unburned, the excessive
buildup of fuel can present a potential wildfire hazard for the
park and the neighboring community. Depending on weather and proper
winds, we hope to burn two additional portions of the park, located
along the western side of the park drive, between now and the
end of March.
Thanks for visiting our web page. We hope to see you soon and
often. Should you have any further questions please call our Ranger
Station at (772) 468-3985 anytime between 8:00 AM and Sunset.
