Alafia River State Park opened to the public in February 1998. The park consists of over 6,000 acres with approximately 12 miles of shoreline along the South Prong Alafia River. The land was formerly used for phosphate mining and was donated to the Florida State Parks in 1996. Alafia River State Park offers some of the most challenging mountain bike trails in Florida, from the easiest “Sand Pine” trail to the most extreme and technical “Gatorback” trail with unique evaluation changes. Equestrians can experience the various ecosystems while riding over rolling hills with breathtaking lake views. Or if you prefer, hike to one of the many lakes to enjoy a day of fishing, relaxation, or bird watching. The weather is at its prime for a camping excursion in our campground with a breathtaking view of Lonesome Lake. Electric and water is available at each of the 30 sites. Our new Picnic Area / Trailhead offers a large playground for the children, horseshoe pit, and volleyball area. You will also find clean restroom facilities and two large rental picnic pavilions, a perfect combination for those large group functions or a family reunion.

You are invited to visit Alafia River State Park to experience the wonders of the great outdoors and the many recreational activities we have to offer.
